Tough Loss to Astros

On a hot May night in front of about 40 fans, the Legends Cardinals had just one bad inning in the field and still paid the price as they lost 5-3 to the defending regular season champs Fisgard Astros on Thursday night.

Starting pitcher Luke Lampard did his job in the first inning and got the cards into the top of the second tied at no score. Thanks to hits by Shane Roberts and Rob Walker, and Sean Pollitt taking his second plunk of the year, Legends was able to climb out to a 2-0 lead against Astros pitcher Marty Hall.

But in the bottom of the second the big Astors bats came back with 5 runs, including 3 scored with 2 outs, as the Cards just could not get off the field. In the top of the third, the team in red was able to scrounge another run back to bring the score to 5-3, but that was as close as they would get. Trevor Strandlund came in to relieve Lampard in the fifth inning and did a great job of shutting down the Astors lineup to maintain his 0.00 ERA for the season, but the Cards bats would just not light up again and the Astros were able to climb to .500 at 2W, 2L.

Come out to catch the Cards as they face the Sopranos Athletics (a guaranteed win by their team sponsor, Sopranos Karoake and Sports Bar) this Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM.
